Early July and Oxfordshire is rocking. Just a bit north of Woodstock is Cornbury Park, the venue for a very civilised music festival. The audience is mostly over-40’s with offspring in tow, all kitted out in Cath Kidson wellies and drinking innocent smoothies and sheep’s milk shakes, mingling with the likes of David Cameron. The music is just great for those who remember the eighties fondly, with The Proclaimers, Blondie, The Waterboys and Echo and the Bunnymen. David Gray headlined the Saturday night, with Suzanne Vega and The Feeling leading up to Blondie on the Sunday. Folk lovers had their own stage and, on top of all this, balloonists made the most of the rare sunshine. Half a dozen balloons flew on the slightly gusty Saturday night and a handful more tethered and glowed. Sunday morning was a joy, after weeks of rain, with sunshine and plenty of steerage. Stuart Skinner made his maiden flight (accompanied by brave passenger Lorne Aslett) after receiving his purple passport, leading to a certain amount of celebration in the camping enclosure. Sunday evening was again looking a bit unstable, but Blondie was worth staying on the ground for!
